The Elephant^® Sigma De-Icer

Based on the well-established technical base of the Elephant^® family of aircraft deicers, the Vestergaard Elephant^® Sigma is introduced especially for servicing small to medium-size aircraft. It may serve as a supplement to add flexibility to existing deicing operations or as the back-bone deicer for airport operations, frequented by aircraft types of up to - and including - Boeing 757/767. With a maximum work height of 9.5 metres, the Elephant^® Sigma can also easily and efficiently be used for deicing high-T-tail aircraft, such as MD-80/90's or TU-134.

In line with a classical Vestergaard virtue, the unit is built on a standard, commercial chassis from a renowned telescope loader manufacturer, with a sturdy diesel engine and hydrostatic drive, allowing for world-wide, easy access to spare parts and servicing. The unit is very compact and highly manoeuvrable in crowded apron environments and is available for either one- man or two-man operation. With the one-man options, the entire unit can be operated - and driven - by the operator in the basket, using joystick controls conveniently located in the basket. The basket has ample capacity for two persons, as it is rated for 200+ kg. Needless to mention, this deicer - as all Vestergaard's deicers - has a CE type-approval issued by an independent third party and thereby meeting the key industry standards (such as f.ex. EN12312-6).

The rotating fly-jib boom system allows the operator to cover a horizontal width of more than 6 metres, which means that the need for re-positioning operations during deicing is reduced.

Highly compact in dimensions, and yet with a tank capacity (in one-tank or two-tank configuration) of over 2,300 l (608 gal.), the unit provides considerable de-icing capacity, and with the 80kW or 160kW optional diesel-burning heaters, a heating time of less than 50 minutes can be achieved.
